The count, dated
As of 28 August 2026, we have recorded 11,227 wallets restricted on USDT, across 14,905 recorded events on 5 blockchains. 2,321 of those events went further than blocking: the balance was destroyed or taken.
The count comes from the contracts themselves. Every entry is a transaction Tether sent to a USDT contract, and every one can be checked on the blockchain without taking our word for it.
It counts Tether’s own USDT deployments only. Wrapped and bridge-issued USDT is recorded separately and attributed to the bridge, so a bridge’s action never inflates Tether’s count.
Why published figures differ
Most published counts are smaller because they watch fewer places. A tracker that watches USDT on Ethereum and Tron only cannot see 5,687 of the 16,872 restricted wallets in our record, as of 28 August 2026. USDT freezes also happen on other chains, and freezes on other tokens never show up in a USDT-only count.
Figures quoted from company statements measure something else again: what the company chose to announce, when it announced it. A count read from the contracts moves with every transaction, not with press releases.
So when two counts disagree, ask what each one watches. Ours is dated, names its chains, and links every entry to the transaction behind it.

Does this count include USDC or other stablecoins?
No. 11,227 counts USDT only. Across every token we track — 59 of them — 16,872 wallets have at least one recorded restriction, as of 28 August 2026.
Does it include wallets that were later unfrozen?
Yes. It counts every wallet with a recorded USDT restriction, and the record keeps the unfreeze too: 1,314 USDT unfreezes are on record, each a dated entry beside the freeze it lifted.
How many of those wallets lost the money?
2,321 USDT events destroyed or took the balance rather than only locking it, as of 28 August 2026. Destroying a balance is, on our record, overwhelmingly Tether’s practice: 97% of every seize we have recorded was on USDT.
